Idiotic alternates

Dämmerung met a young man in the Nexus a few days ago and then came and spoke with me about the problems that he's having with his native Batman. I agreed to go and help if I could, and have accordingly spent several days sitting around in the Bat suit on various overly soft Nexus couches. (Sidenote: It's amazing how few people noticed me even as I sat in plain sight. And the range of stupidity of some of the questions was equally so.)

Today they arrived; the situation bearing all the signs of a Bruce napping. I spoke with him, but I'm uncertain as to how much good I did.

I don't think it's that they didn't notice you, Aunt Brenda, I just think they don't care. Compared to some sights there, a woman in the Batman costume isn't exactly an attention holder.

But I continue to be amazed by how different Dad and Uncle Bruce were from all the other Batmen I've met.

I'm surprised by how many Batmen I want to kick in the head.

There's a few I've liked... but most them... *ugh*.

I feel for Alfred and Jim. And Katalyn.

No kidding. Nobody should have to put up with that.

What makes so many of them like that, Aunt Brenda? Did they cinch their utility belts too tight or something?

I didn't want anyone else dying, so I drove them all away.

I'm not sure that was your choice to make.

But... I don't know. Past the first couple years of the whole Batman thing, Dad didn't even much go in for the scary creature of the night thing. Went out in daylight just as often as not, like a Superman for Gotham.

Dawn does that now. She doesn't need to sleep, so she's out at all hours.

And no, it wasn't.

Probably doesn't hurt that Gotham was never exclusively Batman territory. Between GL and the JSA, it would have been hard to stick to the shadows anyway. But sometimes, I think my universe is just a bit, I dunno, lighter than most.

It was a simpler time back then. There were lines that just weren't crossed, and respect for authority still existed.

[identity profile] bat-daughter.livejournal.com 2007-11-30 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Gotta remember that too. Dad had anywhere from a twenty to forty or more year start on these other versions.

Heh. Say hi to her for me, will ya?

[identity profile] anotherbwayne.livejournal.com 2007-12-01 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
She's reading over my shoulder. Or was before she started dancing.

It's good to see her acting her age.

And I'd better scroll away from this before she sees it. There's only so much pouting and glowering I can take, and the twins have topped my limit today.

All right. Take care of yourself.

You too. Don't be a stranger.
